Real vacationers know that exploring the land is only half of what Kauai has to offer. Strap on a snorkel or scuba tank and head down to the south shore where the water is like a clear viewing glass into the wonders below. Visibility averages to around fifty feet on the southern shore and sea life is bountiful.
Swim along side strange and exotic fish near the reefs off Kee Beach and Haena Beach Park. Check out Tunnels Beach in Haena which has an extraordinarily wide reef with a large diverse aquatic population. Make sure to look at ocean conditions prior to heading out to make sure the surf isn't up and the currents strong.
For beginning snorkeling, Anini Beach offers a safe, shallow area to get your feet wet. For intermediate snorkeling, Nukumoi Point and Salt Pond Beach Park have abundant marine life as well as hidden coves.
